The Town of mills

Gifhorn, knows as the Town of Mills, is situated in the southern part of the Lüneburger Heide heathlands. The open-air windmill museum, with its 16 old mills from all around the world, is the only one of its kind in Europe. The historical old town centre, parts of which are 800 years old, has a choice of wonderful shops, some housed in magnificent half-timbered houses. The renaissance castle of the Royal of Hanover includes an impressive museum of regional culture spread over three floors. Other great places to visit include Gifhorn Heath, the swimming paradise Tankumsee lake and the Otter Centre in Hankensbüttel.
